Corta y Raspa are a collective brand, made of 4 wine makers representing a singlular stand of a lost ID, making village wines from distinct parcelas within Sanlúcar de Barrameda’s Atlantic Pagos called Vino de Pasto.
Stylistically, these Vino de Pastos low-cropped, high quality Palominos reflecting specific
terroirs, lightly augmented by bodega ageing. By way of level playing field, each of the Corta y Raspa wines are aged identically, for about a year in old bota, fully topped, without flor.
Pepe (José Antonio) García Gordillo has the eponymous parcela within Sanlúcar’s iconic Pago Miraflores Alta. This parcel was long held by Dani Rodriguez’s family, known as ‘los Esbarataos’ and the fruit was sold to Barbiana for their fine Manzanilla. A couple of generations ago, Dani’s grandfather sold it to Pepe’s. Atop the parcela is a fine old Cortijo (winery-house in the vineyard), long-since abandoned, sadly. Pepe is a 4th generation Mayeto. Parcela la Viña Miraflores Alta is 600 metres up the ridge from Dani’s parcela Viña de Los Esbarataos, at around 65 metres altitude.
Curry leaf and ozone, a margarita’s salt rim. Subtle oceanic blue smells, a titch of sour herb. Cactus fruit. Round, soft and delicately fruited but with a pleasantly steely, definite rim.
Light but in no way wishy-or-washy. Cereal-savoury with a sour jag, easy run and lovely spice.
