Introducing Telmo Rodriguez Lanzaga 2009 $66.
If you believe Rioja can be a place, not a process, then this is the wine for you!

Here it is, fresh off the boat and looking like a gem already. Having tasted this wine in the Lanciego cellar twice over the past couple of years, I cannot tell you the glee with which I unpacked Lanzaga 2009 from container last week, nor the joy at how well it has travelled ... As of today, we have retired the last stocks of Lanzaga 2008 to our cellar and announce the launch of Lanzaga 2009.

Telmo Rodriguez 'Lanzaga' Rioja RRP $66
Lanzaga is the gently oaked big sister to LZ. It's aged a year or so in a mixed wood regime of 225, 600 and 1200 litre wood of differing ages - new, one and two year old large and small is deployed.

Darker and a little fuller than 2008, this is perfectly pure Rioja. Dark cherry fruit has meat and leather savouriness, with a mountain thyme and red lavender lift. It is extremely supple with a nicely fructose entry which rolls out into a long and textured palate. It's as perfectly reflective of site as wine can get, and barely 'made'.
