the spanish aquisition

For some time we have wanted to introduce a new Cava brand to our portfolio, with the intent to plug the price-point gap in our list between the outstanding cheapie, Vallformosa MVSA at $20 retail and our entry premium Raventos i Blanc Brut at $40. Exhaustively, over the course of more than two years, we have tasted every available sub-premium-priced Cava in the Spanish market. In 3 separate full D.O. tastings here and another in situ in Penedes, the Cavas from Torreblanca have topped the tasting each time; and each time with an identical tasting note! A wine with real identity, consistency, great value and delicious … we believe this very much fits the bill, and have arranged to add Torreblanca to our list (having first spent the past 6 months helping develop new labels and packaging, so they look as smart as they taste).

So, hey guess what??! … we have two great new Cavas for you to get on to:

NV Torreblanca Cava Brut $29 rrp
Fresh, mineral nose, crystalline with white nectarine, honey wafers, light apple and a nice green, crunchy aspect. The palate is light, correct, uncomplicated with beautifully formed bubbles wafting classic Cava lemony-apple-macadamia fruit along a lovely fine palate with shaley earth and waxy florals. Beautifully simple and very stylish, it is effectively dry with 8 g/l residual, and is aged 19 months on yeast lees. Blend is Macabeo 35%, Xarel.lo 25% and Parellada 40%.

NV Torreblanca Cava Brut Nature $33 rrp
This zero dosage version is a light, lively, very clean and fresh wine, balanced and caressing in the mouth. Has a lovely deep and open nose, with nothing pinched or hard, it’s all soft golden delicious apple, yellow earth and a nice mixed sense of creamy and tingly aromas. The palate is quite dry of course, but has no meanness or angularity. The tart apple and briney oyster fruit has fine tannins mixing with nutty autolytic textural elements. It lays out easily and gently in the mouth, with terrific depth of flavour at this price.
